Got Me A Woman - Levon Helm

from the album Dirt Farmer (2007)

Levon Helm died yesterday.  I was driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles when I heard the news.  The first image to cross my mind was him singing The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down in The Last Waltz. Then Ophelia, The Weight, and all the others.  My favorite Levon Helm story was when he quit drumming for  Dylan's 1965 tour due to his disappointment in the public's anger over Dylan going electric.  When I made it the hotel, I put on Dirt Farmer.  It is a great album.  I have lots of favorites on this one but tonight I'm locked into Got Me A Woman.  The first line "I got me a woman, she's a pretty good woman at that, we live with a monkey and a chinese acrobat" evokes the classic Dylan imagery that I love.  He was a bridge between the roots of American Music and it's future.  God Bless Levon Helm.
